Everything about the Trapper Divot Tool
The Trapper Divot Tool takes its shape from the trapper, the long, slim folding knife that's been carried in back pockets for generations. It borrows three lines from that knife: a curved spine, a finger scoop on the underside and a long blade that ends in two tapered prongs. In deep black at a full 3 oz, it looks as good on the table at the turn as it works on the green.
The Design
Every line on the Trapper does a job. The spine sweeps up into a rounded head that fills your palm. Opposite it, a deep scoop gives your index finger a place to settle, so the tool points where you aim it. Two open ports through the head nod to the pins on a classic knife handle and keep the look light without losing the heft. Below them, the face steps down into a flat panel made for engraving, then splits into two long prongs. From the side, the head is a full 12 mm thick and tapers to fine points, so the prongs slide into the turf instead of pushing it.

Repairing a Ball Mark
Slide the prongs in at the edge of the mark, ease the turf toward the center from a few sides, then tap it smooth with your putter. The finger scoop keeps your grip locked in, so you're pushing the grass back together instead of levering it up and tearing the roots. Fix yours and one more, and the green rolls true for everyone behind you.
